Born in Scotland Jo Milne lives and works in Barcelona. Her work orientates around this displacement, trying to explain and understand the world around her through exploring new territories. She explains how language can suddenly become a barrier, something that requires initiation to allow what is personal to become public. Jo equates foreign language to the form of music, where words are merely intriguing sounds. Displacement and the new vision that relocation provides allows Jo to re-access the role of language and coded systems in how they guide our understanding and perception of the world. This investigation of codes, their applications and mechanics has led her to produce her recent paintings.
