Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva (UK/Macedonia) Studio 6A Sculpture/installation January to March 2005 Much of Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva’s work is realised through taking risks in developing new projects for specific venues or places. The history of her practice has developed through residencies, commissions and exhibitions, where she responds to the environment, interior or exterior, by spending time researching the place, its local history and materials. Elpida is concerned with space, above and below and she is interested in exposing spaces, which we normally do not encounter, including light, darkness, colour, texture and smell. Through her manipulation of quite ordinary materials Elpida delves into the unexpected and through enhancement tries to capture and expose our mundaneness as worthy and meaningful. Elpida’s residency is partially supported by The Arts Council of England.
