Round Table Conversation: Drawing as record, memory and process of exchange
Brian Fay (artist and Lecturer, DIT) chairs an open conversation exploring the relationship between drawing as an act of memory, invention, categorisation record and nostalgia. Panelists include Gary Coyle (artist), Jan Szymczuk (forensic artist) and Medb Ruane (writer and practicing psycho-analyst). The impetus for the discussion stems from First Love, an artwork by Neuenschwander which involves a forensic artist recreating an image of the face of a visitor’s loved one, who’s been lost in the past. The portraits produced are part memory, part fiction and the result of the partnership and exchange between the narrator and the recorder. |

Similarly overlapping themes are evoked in Neuenschwander’s film The Tenant and Weir’s film Dust Defying Gravity, from IMMA’s Collection. |
